In the fall of 2002 I got a phone call from a San Francisco lawyer who asked if I was interested in becoming the player agent for Hideki Matsui, the great Japanese baseball player. Over the next few weeks a Japanese attorney and I corresponded about the ancient verities that were important to Matsui: honor, respect, humility.
